This course offers a very practical approach to life drawing. Working from life models, plaster casts and skeletons Tim will guide students to observe the anatomical structure of the human form and provide guidance on using a range of linear techniques and mediums to produce tonal studies of the life form. The course will commence with a focus on the full torso, and then examine various parts of the human form (hands, knees, face, etc). The course will conclude with more expressive drawing in charcoal and mixed media.

Careful consideration will be given to the use of:

  • Line and placement
  • Proportion and direction
  • change of plane and form
  • perspective
  • foreshortening
  • anatomy
  • properties of light
  • colour and rendering
  • composition and expression
